If you have access to the internet you’ve got a great opportunity to find lots of free games to while away those spare minutes with. You can spend a lot of money buying various computer games if you aren’t careful. But with so many freebies around you can really find everything you want to play without spending anything if you know where to look.
Not all games are dull or just for the fun of it either. If you want to get your kids involved with some good games, try visiting sites which have free games to try based on maths or some other necessary skill.
By doing this you can not only have some fun, you will be teaching them something as well. A good example of a game that meets these kinds of parameters is Mental Maths. This can be found by going to http://www.kongregate.com/games/Aaants/mental-maths.
The rules are actually very simple. The aim of the game is to complete simple sums in as fast a time as possible. You will have a target and an operator to use each time. Your target is the figure you need to arrive at as the sum. The operator is either a plus, a minus or a multiply sign.
This sounds tricky but it is actually quite straightforward once you understand it. Let’s say the target is 10 and the sign is a plus sign. You simply find two blocks from the grid you are given which will enable you to arrive at the figure of 10. In this case you could do 5 + 5 or 6 + 4, or anything which results in the answer 10. You just have to look for the appropriate numbers in the grid on the left hand side.
It really is easier than it seems to understand the rules and the way to play – but trying to do the sums in the time given is very difficult! Needless to say you will get better as you play and it really sharpens your brain and thinking skills marvellously.
This is just one example of a game that can be found for free online that will help you and your kids get sharper with maths problems. There are plenty of other educational games available for free too, so why not start looking for them today? You’ll soon have a range of freebies to try out every time you switch on your computer.
