Rugby Union Six Nations Begins on 1st February – Will You Be There?

Friday January 24, 2014

Rugby fans will be watching closely from 1st February onwards this year as the famous Six Nations event gets underway for 2014. It takes place over a six week period until 15th March, and this year will mark the 120th occasion the event has occurred.

For those who are only just coming to the Six Nations event for the first time, the six nations taking part are as follows:

* England
* Ireland
* Scotland
* Wales
* France
* Italy

The event takes place in the six home nation cities, as a mix of different head to head matches occur in each place. The first match will be at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and will be contested between Wales and Italy. The second match to take place on 1st February will be between France and England and will be contested at the Stade de France in Saint Denis.

The other stadiums and cities in the event will be Twickenham Stadium in London, Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Stadio Olimpico in Rome and Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

The Six Nations rugby union event has taken place since 2000. Before that it was known as the Five Nations event, between the years 1940 and 1999. England has won the event four times but Wales proved unbeatable and won the championship in both 2012 and 2013. Will they be victorious again this year? Only time will tell whether this will be the case or not.

Of course while the event is great to watch on television there is nothing quite like being at one of the stadiums to see a match taking place in front of your eyes. Until you have been part of the atmosphere – no matter which teams you watch – you can never know the difference. It might just be tempting to place a bet on your favourite team too, maybe your home team if you support them.

It’s not too late to search out tickets for one of the matches at one of the tournament venues. Placing a bet and being there to see the outcome is something to savour – especially if you pick a winner. Maybe England will be successful this year. Perhaps Ireland will be the overall winners? Or maybe Italy will prove victorious as the champions. Whatever the result, you could be there as part of it.
