At the time of writing, Sweden was about to face Switzerland for a quarterfinal place, with Colombia squaring off against England to determine the last quarterfinal berth. From there, we will see which teams go through to the semis and which two will battle it out in the final.
Regardless of which two teams out of Sweden and Switzerland, and Colombia and England, make it into the last quarterfinal, the remaining teams are set to do battle on Friday 6th July and Saturday 7th July. We’ll see Uruguay go up against France at 3pm on Friday, with Brazil meeting Belgium on the same day at 7pm. Then it is the turn of the two quarterfinalists we do not yet know on Saturday at 3pm, followed by Russia and Croatia at 7pm that day.
So, could hosts Russia be the ones to lift the coveted trophy on 15th July? At the time of writing, Brazil is at 11/4 while Russia is at 20/1 – a nice bet if it turns out to be true, but it does mean they are believed to be far less likely winners than some other teams. England has odds of 6/1 to take the title, although they are not yet through to the quarters. Colombia are at 20/1 though, so it would be a major upset if England didn’t get through to the final eight. By the time you read this, you may know the answer…
Meanwhile, France is at 4/1 and Croatia are sharing the same odds with England. And yet, as always, we could see a shock occur with another team winning the World Cup 2018. There is no way to know what will happen – after all, we did see a shock when reigning champions Germany was knocked out in the group stages. That proved to be one of the biggest surprises yet in the tournament. Brazil is the most successful team as they hold five titles, so could this be the year they scoop number six? We may only be days away from finding out, so keep an eye on those odds to see what happens next.
