The 2017/18 Premier League is shaping up to be an intriguing competition. At the time of writing, Manchester City remains in top spot, having played 11 matches and won 10 – easily the best performance out of all the clubs at present. The remaining match they played was a draw.
To put that into some context, the second-, third-, and fourth-placed clubs have each won seven matches out of the 11 played. Manchester United is in second place, having drawn two and lost two matches. While they have performed identically to the third-placed club, Tottenham Hotspur, the goal difference has put Manchester United ahead of the other club. Both are on 23 points at present, with Manchester City out in front on 31 points. In fourth place is Chelsea, with three losses and one draw. They are on 22 points with a goal difference of nine.
Looking at the other end of the scale, the three lowest-placed clubs are West Ham United in 18th position, Swansea City in 19th, and Crystal Palace in 20th. These are the three positions that will lead to relegation once the Premier League term is completed in 2018. West Ham United and Swansea City have each won just two matches thus far. West Ham has drawn three, and Swansea City has drawn two. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace is struggling with just one win from 11 matches, one draw, and nine losses. They have just four points at present, while Swansea City has eight and West Ham United has nine.
With that said, there are only a few points difference between these clubs and the ones immediately above them. With lots of matches still to go, there is every chance things could turn around. Certainly, Crystal Palace will be looking to vastly improve their performance over the coming weeks. Their next match is against Everton on Saturday 18th November at 3pm. Everton is currently placed 15th, having moved up three places out of the relegation zone after their last match. They would dearly love to improve on that, too.
There is a lot at stake in these next matches. The leading team, Manchester City, will be up against Leicester City next, also on Saturday 18th November at 3pm – a home match for the Leicester team. Manchester City would love another win to maintain their no-loss record, but can they keep up the performance they’ve put in so far? Leicester City is currently placed 12th, having dropped one place after their last match. They’ve got plenty to prove as well.
We will be watching, but we’re not sure which teams we’ll place our bets on just yet. There’s plenty of time to consider the options. Which team do you think will come out on top this year?
